Job summary

A brilliant opportunity has arisen for the Head of Procurement role within the Trust.

As we look to move beyond the pandemic, the role is fundamental in supporting the Trusts Climate Emergency response and move into a more collaborative and system based environment, whilst implementing the new Procurement Act.

We're looking for someone to lead the Strategic Procurement teams.

Main duties of the job

  • Reporting to the Procurement & Supply Chain Director, this is a key role within the Senior Management Team. You'll provide strategic direction to the Procurement Teams to ensure a proactive service is provided across the Trust in line with our vision and planned direction.
  • You'll bring your own proven experience to help us further develop and maintain best practice procurement processes and procedures and keep us up to date and informed of procurement trends and innovation.
  • You'll lead your teams to deliver a robust and challenging procurement service that supports the efficient delivery of the highest quality care to the Trust's patients.
  • You'll represent the procurement function and Trust on internal and external collaborative organisation improvement / development activities.
  • You'll have excellent stakeholder management and communications skills to enable you to work effectively with other senior managers within the Directorate as well as colleagues across the Trust, region and country.
  • You'll bring coaching and mentoring skills into play to develop the team as we move forward in a more collaborative environment.
  • You'll have highly developed specialist knowledge of procurement, ideally with its application within public sector. This knowledge must be underpinned by theory and experience. Demonstrable knowledge and experience of the NHS procurement landscape would be an advantage but is not essential.

  • The Head of Procurement is part of the Procurement & Supply Chain senior management team and is the first point of contact for specialist expert technical and procurement, business support and planning.
  • As the service lead for Procurement and Business Support the post holder is responsible for a number of activities and cross functional teams, including but not limited to: Directorate relationship / category management; strategic procurement and contracts; business support and planning; Shelford / NHS SC / NHS E projects.
  • The post holder is responsible for the line management for the Procurement and Business Support Departments and will lead the teams in the establishment and/or enhancement of robust relationships across and within Directorates, to drive productive collaboration between the stakeholders and the Procurementand Business Support function in the effective forward planning andmanagement of activity across the Trust and its stakeholders.
  • As a full member of CIPS and educated to masters level (or have the equivalent experience and academic ability for the demands of the post) you must be experienced in leading and managing teams and will be able to demonstrate an appropriate level of experience of managing programmes of work, a project Management qualification would be useful

  • Higher level Management / Leadership Qualification (such as Hons Degree, Post Grad or Masters) or equivalent experience and academic ability for the demands of the post
  • Full membership of the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (MCIPS or FCIPS)
  • Project Management Qualification (such as PRINCE2 practitioner) or equivalent experience.
