An opportunity has arisen for a Band 4 Dental Nurse to join our Clinical Research Team in the Dental Clinical Research Facility. The Dental Clinical Research Facility is the primary location for clinical dental research in Newcastle Dental Hospital, and interfaces closely with Newcastle University.
As a Band 4 Dental Research Nurse, you will work as part of a small, dedicated research team, playing a crucial role in the delivery of a broad portfolio of academic and commercial sponsored clinical trials, with a strong ethos of embedding research into clinical practice.
The successful candidate will be a Dental Nurse with relevant post-qualification experience, excellent communication skills and ability to organise and to use their own initiative.
Training in all aspects of conducting clinical research will be provided to the successful candidate.

Main duties of the job
As Dental Research Nurse you will perform all aspects of Clinical Research, including screening and recruitment of patients, assisting with clinical treatment, management of study documentation and data, and reporting and presenting research and clinical data.
You will also have responsibility for relevant aspects of scheduling and ordering and management of supplies.
Working as part of the Clinical Research Team you will support the safe conduct of research in accordance with the research governance framework and good clinical practice guidelines and provide assurance that the rights, safety, and well- being of trial participants are protected.

- To work as a Research Dental Nurse in the Dental Clinical Research Facility/Dental Hospital.
- To prepare all instruments, equipment and materials required for treatment.
- To manage all patient appointments and ensure patients are seen within the correct timeline.
- Co-ordinate and supervise house keeping duties (e.g. chair flushing, temperature checking, oxygen cylinder checking and cleaning the surgeries) and ordering of all clinical trial supplies.
- Co-ordinate the safe collection transfer and storage of blood / tissue samples in accordance with the Human Tissue Act 2004 as required by trial protocol.
- To provide care and support for patients undergoing a variety of treatments.
- To provide pre and post operative instructions and advice, so maintaining a high standard of patient care at all times.
- To ensure patient confidentiality is always upheld.
- To provide administrative assistance with regard to liaison with patients and other external agencies.
- To provide chair-side data recording and direct data entry.
- To provide clinical supervision and practical training other less experienced staff on a daily basis.
- To ensure that cross infection control, the cleanliness of the department, stock levels and equipment are well maintained.
- Management of Clinical Assurance Tool/liaising with Research Matron.
- To attend lab meetings and deliver presentations.
- To develop new systems to create a more efficient way of working.
