Job summary
An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated individual, who has previous experience of working within a clinical or non-clinical healthcare setting. The Patient Safety Co-ordinator role sits within the Patient Safety Team, in the Clinical Governance & Risk Department, and supports and facilitates the co-ordination of the patient safety governance function of the Trust, providing support to senior managers within the Patient Safety Team as appropriate.
The post holder will communicate effectively with colleagues across all levels of seniority and across all departments within the Trust, providing appropriate advice and support in relation to organisational governance processes and complex patient safety concerns. The post holder will work alongside and support senior Trust leaders in quality and patient safety, as the Trust transitions towards the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework as part of the NHS Patient Safety Strategy. We are looking for someone who is passionate about improving patient safety through learning and improvement and who is dedicated to championing a positive and open safety culture. The post holder is expected to be able to communicate with patients and their families as required, in a sensitive and compassionate way.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will be able to work autonomously, supervising other staff as delegated and escalating any identified risks and immediate safety actions to the Patient Safety Manager. The post holder will also work as part of a team, and as such will contribute to the day-to-day responsibilities required to support senior manager and Executive-level awareness of patient safety matters within the organisation.
- Be highly professional, self-aware and have well developed interpersonal and communication skills in order to develop and maintain strong relationships with a range of individuals of varying professions and grades
- Communicate in a sensitive and compassionate way with staff, patients and their families, for example when involved in patient safety events
- Work with senior leaders in quality and patient safety, supporting Clinical Boards to undertake patient safety incident investigations in order to understand what happened, identify learning for improvement and action points to share throughout the Trust
- Be self-motivated and able to work both independently and effectively as part of a team
- Understand the scope of their role and when to escalate concerns or seek senior advice as appropriate
- Be able to understand and communicate complex information, producing both verbal and written reports
- Be able to work to a tight schedule, prioritise workload and remain calm under pressure
- Be competent in IT and presentation skills
