Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a dynamic, nurse-led team on Ward 4 at Freeman hospital. We are a day unit covering many specialties across surgery and medicine. The post is temporary for 1 year as a band 6, full time (37.5 hours per week), to cover maternity leave. We are currently open Monday to Friday 0700 - 1900.
We cover many surgical procedures, treatments and investigations as day-case or day of surgery arrival, also medical treatments and investigations too .Giving the successful applicant the opportunity to develop their own knowledge across a wide range of specialties. Providing effective support and leadership to staff, patients and carers within the ward. Ensuring systems are in place to provide the continuity of safe effective care for patients at all times.
As A Band 6 nurse you will be responsible for supporting your manager in ensuring our service users' needs are met through the delivery of high quality care. Dealing with day-case and day of surgery arrival patients who are transferred to other areas post procedure. We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and efficient team player to join our friendly team.

Main duties of the job
- Developing management skills, acting as nurse in charge in senior sister's / charge nurses' absence.
- Maintaining a high standard of clinical work when carrying out nursing procedures.
- Ensure compliance with our clinical governance framework, you will motivate colleagues, champion service user safety and drive continuous improvement.
- Manage patient flow through unit and ensure safe and effective patient care.
- Support the sister / charge nurse with professional accountability and standards, ensuring professional practice is in line with NMC and trust requirements.
- Support junior members of staff / students to develop their roles with appropriate supervision / assessment.
- Developing leadership skills and behaviours to manage a team, acting as a role model.
- Perform nurse-led discharge using guidelines / policies in place.
- Be an effective member of the multi-disciplinary team
- Support and contribute to the development of patient care and nursing practice within the ward contributing to Trust projects where required.
