Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated and forward-thinking individual to undertake the role of Elective Admissions Administrator within the Urology Department at The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundations Trust.

This administrative role is based in the Freeman Hospital.

Main duties of the job

The sensitivity around clinical and management priorities will require the post holder to work with and have the confidence of Consultants and Operational Service Managers. Information management and data quality is essential to ensuring effective management of waiting lists. The role will also involve the administration of the patient journey through our Day Treatment Centre (DTC) for urological patients.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills, flexibility, reliability and must have an organised approach to work. The position provides the opportunity to work within a very supportive and welcoming team and to further develop existing knowledge and skills.

Job responsibilities

  • The Elective Admissions administrative service contributes towards a systematic approach to delivering the NHS commitments for access to elective and day case surgery, specifically the drive to guarantee maximum waiting times and introduce patient choice through booking systems. The sensitivity around clinical and management priorities will require the post holder to work with and have the confidence of Consultants and Operations Managers.
  • Information management and data quality is essential to ensuring effective management of waiting lists.
  • Through robust booking systems the service aims to maximise theatre utilisation and maintain NHS patient access targets. This will require the service to have a strong patient focused approach ensuring that written and verbal communication with patients is conducted in a professional and receptive manner. The booking of admission dates will entail a telephone contact facility. Patient confidentiality must be observed at all times.
  • Working within a team of administrative staff to provide a comprehensive support service to Consultants, Medical Staff and other clinical members of their team e.g., Specialist Nurses and Therapists.
  • Communicates with patients regarding appointments and admissions at the request of the medical team.
  • Provides on-the-job training to new and junior members of staff as required.
  • Cover Clinical Administrator and Elective Admissions Officer posts Trust wide as required.
