Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Information Manager within the Northern Genetics Service at International Centre for Life. This role will be required to manage, support and lead on development of the IT systems within the Service, working closely with senior members of the IM&T within the Trust and the Northern Genetics Service Management Panel to ensure we deliver the best possible care to our patients within the Northern Region, throughout the UK and abroad.

Main duties of the job

  • To coordinate, manage, maintain and implement information technology (IT)
  • To use advanced levels of knowledge and experience to identify and evaluate complex IT/technical problems, consider available alternatives and to correct, repair or facilitate resolution of problem
  • Evaluation of functionality and clinical/laboratory usefulness of new hardware and software
  • Represent the Department at Trust IT & YNEGLH meetings and communicate complex operational IT issues
  • Develop and lead a team of staff with designated IT duties throughout the Department
  • In conjunction with the Genetics Head and Deputy Heads of Laboratory harmonise IT procedures and ensure that "best practice" is adopted in all areas in accordance with IT policy

Essential

  • A relevant first degree
  • A relevant higher IT or Genetics qualification (MSc level) or equivalent experience

Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Experience of solving IT related problems and implementing corrective actions
  • Experience of implementing IT applications
  • Extensive experience of Microsoft applications
  • Experience in performing data analysis and producing reports in tabular, graphical and other formats

Desirable

  • Experience in working with Information Management Systems
  • Experience in implementing or maintaining paperless working environments
  • Experience of Health Service working and knowledge of clinical laboratories
  • Experience of performing database searches and queries using different applications
  • Experience in construction and maintenance of web pages
  • Experience or knowledge of electronic records
  • Understanding of Health and Safety legislation and safe working practices within medical Laboratories
  • Knowledge of genetic testing
