Job summary
As a Clinical Scientist within the Newcastle Gait Analysis Service (NGAS) you will be joining a dynamic multi disciplinary team to undertake specialist clinical assessments of patients, both adult and paediatric, with varying clinical presentations, many of whom have complex disabilities.
You will be collecting and processing gait analysis data including kinematic, kinetic and plantar pressure data. You will be a key member of the team , analyzing data and contributing specialist advice and view points within area of expertise for referring clinicians, which will be used to guide both surgical and conservative treatment planning.
The Clinical Scientist role is pivotal in the specification, procurement and commissioning of diagnostic and assessment equipment used in the gait lab as well as the undertaking of service development and innovation activities. Within your area of expertise you will be responsible for the supervision of trainee clinical scientists and providing in service training to your own and other professions.
The gait lab prides itself as being part of Newcastle upon Tyne Foundations Hospital Trust where patients are put at the heart of everything we do to provide the highest standards of care as well as creating an environment to enable its staff to liberate and fulfil their potential. And is one of only 15 nationally accredited gait labs in the UK to the Clinical Movement Analysis Society (CMAS).

Main duties of the job
- Provide excellent highly specialist clinical services and patient care, working within professional guidelines.
- Work as part of the multidisciplinary team delivering care to highly complex patients within the gait laboratory as part of the patients individualised surgical and conservative treatment planning process.
- Have the scientific skills to collect, process and interpret complex gait data and present findings in an accurate and concise manner by means of a written report or verbal presentation to other healthcare professionals.
- Have the skills and understanding of importance of audit and the maintenance of effective and efficient quality assurance.
- Communicate effectively and work collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team, including medical, nursing, and other therapy colleagues to provide feedback of service evaluation and audit that may facilitate delivery of a co-ordinated multidisciplinary service to patients.
- Work autonomously with their work managed rather than supervised with results being assessed at agreed intervals. Have excellent time management and organizational skills essential to carrying out the duties of the role as detailed in the job description.
- Be aware of relevant legal and statutory issues, international standards and guidelines for best practice.
- Implement Trust policies to meet legal and statutory requirements at all times, for example in relation to the data protection act.
