An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced nurse to join the matron team as a Deputy Matron for cardiology at Newcastle upon Tyne Hospital Trust.
This is a new role to assist in the delivery of quality services across cardiology sites, at Freeman, RVI and Community Cardiology services. Thus, ensuring that high nursing standards are upheld and maintained.
You should be extremely passionate about the delivery of high clinical standards across the portfolio. Enthusiastic and a positive role model for nursing. You should also be able to demonstrate strong leadership skills and behaviours.

Main duties of the job
You will be a key member of the team, progressing patient care pathways and managing resources effectively whilst assisting in leading and developing a team of senior nurses.
As a deputy matron you will assist in delivery and maintenance of high clinical standards, which will include having a key role in root cause analysis for harms, infection control as well as datix investigation.
You will also help to from a robust clinical governance structure within cardiology. The promotion of a positive learning environment where lessons are learnt and changes implemented to ensure a quality service working in partnership with the Directorate Manager, Matron and Clinical Director, Heads of Department both clinical and non-clinical is a key element of this role
There will be an expectation that the deputy matron will deputise for the cardiology matron during periods of awayness. This will include patient flow, bed management and safe staffing.
You should able to demonstrate strong leadership skills and be a positive role model for nursing.

- Promote a positive learning environment where lessons are learnt and changes implemented to ensure a quality service working in partnership with the Directorate Manager, Matron and Clinical Director, Heads of Department both clinical and non-clinical.
- To work closely with colleagues to raise the profile of governance and risk management, highlighting in practice the relationship between patient safety and the management and everyday clinical practice and the effects on the patient to identify areas of good practice and highlight areas that can be improved.
