Job summary

The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals Podiatry department is inviting applicants for a Band 6 Specialist Podiatrist role, working across NUTH community and hospital sites. This exciting and unique role will appeal to someone who would like to develop their skills in Biomechanics. The role will be split between a community podiatry role and also some dedicated time working with the rheumatology team and the orthopaedic foot and ankle team to manage more complex problems, including Biomechanical/MSK pathologies, Rheumatology and Diabetes/ wound care.

The Successful applicant will have the skills and ability to work within specialist teams and demonstrate Band 5 NHS experience of managing patients with multiple clinical pathologies. Applicants must show evidence of completing or working towards completion of a Band 5 competency programme.

A commitment to staff development, including working with students, and delivery of an efficient high quality podiatry service is essential, with the applicant being aware of professional and national guidelines, be up to date with current evidence-based practice and be able to demonstrate their participation in Continued Professional Development, research and clinical audit.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will adopt a flexible approach to meet the evolving needs of the service, and be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of best practice podiatry care. This will include references to the four domains referenced in the Royal College of Podiatry Musculoskeletal framework. Duties will include:

  • An MDT approach to managing complex foot and ankle MSK conditions within the wider Orthopaedic team.
  • Utilise and maintain Evidence based practice treatment modalities and maintain/develop links with regional Special Interest Groups.
  • Support students, apprentices and colleagues with specialist MSK/Diabetes/Wound care advice
  • maintain links with MDT Diabetes, Rheumatology and Vascular teams across the trust, along with the Podiatry staff group in community settings.
  • Effectively assist with triage of referrals into the service, and feedback to referrers
  • Comply with all stat and man training requirements, and play a pro-active role in on going audit, research and self-development.
  • Support the Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle team in decision making for patients.
  • Assist clinical leads and advanced podiatrists with providing education and learning opportunities for staff, including Podiatry rotations.
