To this end, the delivery of the Newcastle Medical School undergraduate curriculum plays a major part in training within Newcastle Hospitals and is essential in the development of the future medical workforce.
We are therefore delighted to advertise this exciting and challenging opportunity for temporary/secondment as Band 6 Workforce Development Officer (Medical Education) within the Newcastle Hospitals Undergraduate Administrative Team. This is a new and exciting post, which has developed due to the increased senior level workload required to support the implementation of the new ground breaking medical student curriculum. You will work with a broad range of clinical and operational staff across Newcastle Hospitals and the Medical School.

Main duties of the job
The postholder leads on the Quality and Governance aspects of the Undergraduate service alongside a Newcastle Hospitals Undergraduate Clinical Lead. Their main role is to manage the vast amount of qualitative and quantitative data generated by Newcastle Medical School student evaluation across Years 3, 4 and 5. A key aspect of the role is to establish efficient working relationships with all Module and Year group leads to support with the continuous review of student evaluation. This involves drawing up relevant action plans alongside the clinical leads with the aim of achieving an improvement in module delivery to ensure students achieve rotation specific learning.
A dashboard has been developed to record and analyse data with the expectation that requests for information from Newcastle Medical School and Trust personnel, is readily available and accurate.

This post was developed 24 months ago as a joint post between Newcastle Hospitals and Newcastle Medical School to provide additional administrative support for the practical delivery of the Newcastle University MBBS programme and the interface with the University processes and procedures in relation to undergraduate MBBS students.
The postholder would be responsible for maintaining a database of active issues throughout the service, which is reviewed monthly at the senior team meetings, and for updating departmental documentation around the governance of the service to clearly demonstrate what indicators and processes are in place to provide assurance that the service is being managed effectively and that processes are working.
To provide evidence to Newcastle Medical School and the Trust that we have a robust evaluation and subsequent quality improvement processes in place, the postholder will be expected to continue the development of a detailed SOP.
Additionally, the postholder is responsible for the preparation of the annual Undergraduate SAR (Self Assessment Report) and QIP (Quality Improvement Plan) for submission to Health Education England (HEE) in preparation for the Annual Medical School Quality Monitoring Meeting. In addition they will also prepare the annual Newcastle Medical School SAR.
It is essential that the postholder is proficient in analysing and presenting data to the highest level, can work autonomously and is confident in both their oral presentation skills as well as report writing and presenting information in a professional manner. A background knowledge of higher education would also be advantageous.

- To work alongside NUTH Undergraduate LEP Clinical Lead, Senior Workforce Development Officers, and lead administrative colleagues in the Medical School and around the region, to identify ways in which improvements can be made to deliver high quality medical education and reliable assessment to Newcastle MBBS students.
- To provide high quality, responsive administrative support for education and development activity to enable achievement of organisational objectives and the Trust agenda.
- To co-ordinate the management and delivery of Medical Education teaching programmes including assessment and examination processes for medical students and junior medical staff assigned to NUTH as required by partner Medical Schools and key stakeholders.
- Ensure delivery of high quality teaching programmes by supporting the Tutor and Administrative teams, effectively evaluating teaching sessions and resolving operational issues independently.
- Manage the process which ensures all medical students/junior medical staff receive timely educational plans/timetables, regular support meetings and formative assessment, ensuring accurate records are maintained. Liaise with relevant tutors and other key stakeholders as appropriate and necessary.
- Liaise regularly with key stakeholders at all levels, including patients.
- Be responsible for co-ordinating Trust and Base Unit key messages to relevant personnel.
- To proactively provide information, advice and guidance to ensure that the education needs of a multi-disciplinary team are met effectively at departmental and learner level.
