Job summary

The North East Assisted Ventilation Service (NEAVS) has a rare and exciting opportunity to join our team for a 12 month secondment period. We are looking to recruit a highly motivated and innovative specialist physiotherapist, who is keen to develop their respiratory skills and expertise in long-term ventilation and airway clearance. Based at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle, the service provides a highly specialist regional service. You will work alongside and be supported by the advanced physiotherapist as well as members of the nursing and medical team.

There is a strong multi-disciplinary team approach within the service, and we work closely with other care providers and specialist teams in the region to provide holistic care to our patient group. Our caseload covers a wide range of conditions, and many of our service users have complex care needs. The post holder will be required to have excellent communication and empathy skills, to support these patients and their care givers.

NEAVS has a strong drive to deliver excellence and are actively involved in research and quality improvement projects both locally and nationally. There are many opportunities for continuous professional development.

If you have a passion for respiratory care and are keen to develop your skills in this area, we would love to hear from you.

This includes the assessment, set up and on-going management of long term ventilation and airway clearance techniques.

The post often involves working together with colleagues in acute hospital care, supporting weaning and complex discharge planning for patients who have received prolonged ventilation.

The role involves a training element, providing education to both service users as well as other healthcare professionals regarding the service and equipment provided by NEAVS.

We are a supportive, friendly, multi disciplinary team nationally recognised for research and development. We strive to provide excellent quality, patient-centred care to enhance quality of life.
