Job summary

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Trials Associate in the Newcastle Clinical Research Facility team to support the delivery of the European multi-centre study, IDEA-FAST (www.idea-fast.eu).

This is an experimental medicine observational study with the aim to identify digital biomarkers for fatigue and sleep disturbances in patients with chronic diseases - in particularly Sjogren's syndrome, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, Parkinson's disease and Huntington's disease. This study takes advantages of recent development in wearables or similar digital technology, providing excellent opportunity for monitoring the impact of fatigue and sleep disturbances in people's daily life. The consortium is led by Newcastle University and NuTH is the lead study site in the UK, responsible for the recruitment of 280 subjects across 5 disease groups. A total of 20 recruiting sites across European is participating in this study (including 9 UK sites).

This study builds on the data and learnings from the IDEA-FAST feasibility study which was completed in 2021 in which NUTH was one of the four study sites across Europe.

The primary role of the post-holder is to support the research team in the delivery of this study at Newcastle effectively, and to reach the recruitment target within the study timeline.

Main duties of the job

Examples of duties include:

  1. Approach and identify candidates to participant.
  2. Develop, implement, monitor, and review the recruitment strategy to ensure recruitment target is reached within the study timeline.
  3. Support the logistics of circulation of the digital devices used in this study.
  4. Directly involvement in recruitment of study participants
  5. Ensure effective communication with the University Lab involved in this study.
  6. Develop and implement effective strategy to ensure good quality of clinical and digital data are obtained.

  • Co-ordinate the collection transfer and storage of blood / tissue samples in accordance with the Human Tissue Act 2004 as required by trial protocol
