Temporary cover for maternity leave

The Northern Centre for Cancer Care are seeking to temporarily appoint a highly experienced, motivated and enthusiastic matron to manage and have oversight of the delivery of chemotherapy in Newcastle and North Cumbria.

This is a senior post within Northern Centre for Cancer Care & Northern Centre for Cancer Care North Cumbria, working closely with the senior management team and Trust senior nursing teams.

The post holder will be responsible for the safe and effective care of chemotherapy patients across the Newcastle and North Cumbria and will be pivotal in the ongoing development of the service.

Main duties of the job

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading by example
  • Ensuring patients receive quality care (positive patient experience, effective nursing care, patient safety)
  • Ensuring staffing is appropriate to patient need
  • Empowering nurses to take on a wider range of clinical activities
  • Improving hospital cleanliness
  • Improving wards for patients
  • Making sure patients are treated with respect and dignity
  • Preventing hospital acquired infections
  • Resolving problems for patients and their relative

This is a busy and challenging role with a requirement for some travel between Newcastle and North Cumbria to support the service.

  • Registered Nurse (appropriate to branch)
  • Current NMC registration
  • Able to demonstrate academic achievement at post-graduate/masters level and willing to undertake full Master's Degree within an agreed timescale
  • Meets Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) requirements for mentorship relevant to role

Desirable

  • Leadership / management qualification

Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Significant post registration experience, some of which must be at Band 7
  • Significant experience at a senior level of managing nursing / clinical teams
  • Audit / research experience
