Job summary
We would like to appoint a highly motivated, enthusiastic and forward thinking Clinician to join a well-integrated team and support us with our advisory and treatment services in Orthodontics, for the Newcastle region, North-East & Cumbria. We offer excellent clinical facilities, with appropriate laboratory, nursing and multi-disciplinary team support on-site. The Orthodontic Department currently has a team of 6 Consultants plus this post, 1 Associate Specialist, 1 Dentist with Special Interest in Orthodontics, 3 SpRs, 3 Post-CCSTs and is supported by a team of 13 Orthodontic Nurses and 5 Technicians. Multidisciplinary clinics form a significant part of department's workload and we work very closely with Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Restorative Dentistry and Cleft services. As a Teaching Hospital we are also committed to delivering high quality of teaching and clinical supervision to our trainees. We very much look forward to appointing a new Consultant who will replace our leaving Colleague. A future Consultant can expect a warm welcome and strong support from the whole existing team.
You will be on the GDC's specialist list in Orthodontics, and will have completed an SAC approved; two year minimum post CCST training programme in Orthodontics and been successful at ISFE or equivalent, or be within 6 months of completion (or equivalence shown). Evidence of research experience would be beneficial.
Main duties of the job
Clinical:
- To provide clinical service for patients attending Orthodontic services of the Trust
- To deliver service in accordance with the Job Purpose
- Undertake clinical teaching and supervision of Junior Dental Staff including undergraduate and postgraduate students.
- Provide Consultant Cover for Junior Dental Staff at the Dental Hospital as necessary
Managerial:
- Play an active role in the day-to-day organisation and delivery of clinical services as part of the consultant team.
- Participate in the clinical audit, governance activities and continuous development of the Orthodontic department, Dental Hospital and Trust
Administrative:
- Undertake general administrative duties within a context of compliance with Directorate and Trust aims and objectives.
- Prompt and effective delivery of administrative duties which support clinical services and training of junior staff.
- You will be expected to run and manage outpatient clinics to deliver quality patient throughput
- Correspondence to practitioners in and outwit the Trust should be done in a timely manner
- Undergo Continued Professional Development in accordance with guidelines stipulated by the Trust and GDC.
