The Bishop Bewick Catholic Education Trust (BBCET), in conjunction with Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals Trust (NUTH) is looking to appoint a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist (Band 7) to work as part of a small team delivering training and support across its schools. This is an exciting new shared venture between BBCET, NUTH and Northumbria Healthcare Trust which will see 2 Highly Specialist SLTs and a band 4 Speech and Language Therapy associate working across BBCET schools to enhance universal and targeted levels of provision for speech, language and communication needs.
Bishop Bewick is a large multi academy trust of the 39 catholic schools of Newcastle, North Tyneside and Northumberland, comprising 34 Primary Schools and 5 Secondary schools. We are seeking to appoint an experienced SLT to work with schools within Newcastle and alongside school staff facilitating speech and language development for children across the primary phase, building on existing practice and supporting the implementation of systems for rapid identification of emerging needs, and the delivery of interventions.
Main duties of the job

The postholder will have substantial experience of training school staff, parents/carers and professionals plus in-depth specialist knowledge and experience of a wide range of speech, language and communication difficulties in children and young people.
They will assist BBCET schools to achieve the optimal level of development for pupils and will provide advice and on-going support for teaching staff, teaching support staff and parents to facilitate speech and language development for children. The focus will be on training and support rather than clinical work with individual children.
The postholder will be part of NUTH's SALT team, receiving clinical supervision with them. The workload will be determined by BBCET Lead for SEND, prioritised jointly based on clinical views and schools' needs.
The post is year-round, with the expectation that term time will be used optimally for working with schools.
