Job summary
The primary aim of this 0.8WTE appointment as Consultant in Oral Medicine is to join the existing well-integrated team to provide consultant-led service at tertiary level to the population of the North-East and beyond. The post holder will contribute to all aspects of the clinical activity of the Department of Oral Medicine. The prime clinical role of the post will be to provide a specialist service for local general dental and medical practitioners for outpatients in particular in relation to the non-surgical management of oral ulceration, inflammatory and infective disorders, white and red patches, bullous lesions, pigmentation, salivary gland disorders, and the management of oral-facial pain.
Candidates are required to hold dental qualifications and be on the GDC's specialist list in Oral Medicine or likely soon to be eligible for inclusion on the GDC specialist list for Oral Medicine.
The post holder is responsible to the Lead Clinician in Oral Medicine, the Clinical Director and operationally to the Clinical Services Manager at Newcastle Dental Hospital.
Main duties of the job
Clinical:
- Provide a clinical Oral Medicine service for adult and paediatric patients.
- Provide assessment and treatment planning for new referrals
Administrative:
- You will be expected to run and manage outpatient clinics and treatment lists to deliver quality patient throughput
- Undertake patient administration and other clinical, academic and departmental administrative duties and take part in the day to day running of the department
- Undertake general administrative duties within a context of compliance with Directorate and Trust aims and objectives.
- Correspondence to practitioners in and outwith the Trust should be done in a timely manner
- Undergo Continued Professional Development in accordance with guidelines stipulated by the Trust and GDC.
- Participate in all aspects of Clinical Governance, making contributions to audit and risk management activities, and undergoing an annual appraisal
Research:
- You may contribute to the research efforts of the Department and others as identified by the Directorate
Teaching:
- Undertake clinical teaching and supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate practitioners where appropriate.
- The post holder would be involved in the clinical aspect of Core Dental training and in the further clinical experience of the Specialty dentists and Registrars.
