Job summary

Main duties of the job

Clinical:

  • Provide expert opinions on patients with infectious disease complaints, taking independent responsibility for the clinical care of patients referred to the unit
  • Participate in regular clinical multidisciplinary meetings meetings
  • Undertake regular ward rounds (daily presence during 1st-on-call week, minimum twice-weekly during 2nd-on-call week.
  • To undertake clinical duties in such a way that meets with Directorate and Trust aims and objectives
  • Lead on departmental provision of general medical care outside of the specialist department, including medical boarding and winter pressures
  • Contribute pro rata to the Infectious Diseases on-call rotas as outlined below
  • Undergo Continued Medical Education (CME) in accordance with guidelines stipulated by the appropriate Royal College, for which appropriate study leave support will be available
  • Undertake an annual appraisal and job plan review. It is expected that objectives within job plan reviews will be based on Trust objectives such as fulfilment of fixed contractual commitments on the basis of a 43 week working year with due allowance for statutory holidays.
  • Contribute to the general organisation and running of the Infectious Disease services within the Trust, working in close collaboration with colleagues.

This is a busy infectious diseases department which specialises in all aspects of clinical ID including: HIV, TB, returning travellers, community acquired infection, complex bone and joint infection, and neurological infection. Essential

  • Primary medical qualification.
  • Full GMC registration.
  • Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register (within 6 months from the date of the AAC).
  • MRCP, CCT in ID, dual-accredited with any of MM, MV or GIM.

Desirable

  • Higher degree (MA, MPH, MD, PhD, or equivalent)

Clinical Experience

Essential

  • Evidence of experience in the specialty.
  • Evidence of a substantial commitment to the specialty.
  • Ability to offer an expert clinical opinion within the speciality.
  • Ability to take independent responsibility for the clinical care of patients referred to a tertiary centre.

Management and Administration Experience

  • Involvement with management and project leadership within the specialty.
