Job summary
The
Leicestershire Adult Eating Disorders Service is a well-established specialist
secondary service for the assessment and management of the clinical eating
disorders for the population of Leicestershire. It serves people over the age
of eighteen living in Leicestershire and Rutland (total population of 950,000)
and receives over 500 referrals each year mainly from General Practitioners.
The post holder will be
responsible for managing a caseload of complex patients and providing
consultation and supervision to the team. Assessment of new referrals and
liaison and consultation with other services (both within and external to the
Trust) with respect to co-morbid presentations (medical and psychiatric) will
be integral to the role. They will provide input to all parts of the service in
agreement and collaboration with their consultant colleagues and the team
managers. Substantive consultants also act as clinical supervisors to junior
doctors on a rotating basis and other members of the team as appropriate.
The post holder will have the
opportunity to contribute to the development and maintenance of a high quality
service through their involvement in service initiatives, clinical governance,
and service evaluation and research. The post holder will be required to
promote the reputation of the service as a centre of excellence at local,
national and international forums.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be required to work in partnership at
both strategic and operational levels with relevant and external
stakeholders. The post holder will need
to ensure that people who use services, carers and advocates are treated with
respect and dignity
Provide
clinical leadership to the MDT responsible for the Consultant's agreed area.
The
Consultant has a continuing responsibility for the care of patients and for the
proper functioning of the department. The consultant will liaise with the
General Practitioners, hospital and community specialists and other agencies
wherever relevant.
The
Consultant will also undertake the administrative duties associated with the
care of patients and the running of the clinical department, including the
prioritisation of the case load according to need
The
appointee will be responsible with consultant and other professional colleagues
for the provision of a comprehensive Eating Disorders service to the district.
The consultant will need to be approved
under section 12 of the Mental Health act. The post holder may be required to
assess people for compulsory treatment and be required to act as responsible
officer for those subject to the mental health act including community CTOs.
The consultant will contribute to
the development of clinical expertise for the benefit of patients and the
Service as a whole.
