Join us in shaping OT provision for children and young people

We are looking for an enthusiastic Occupational Therapist who has experience of working in mental health and is passionate about supporting the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people. The young people you will be working with are likely to have neurodiversity / emotional regulation difficulties / extensive trauma histories and present with high-risk behaviours. The teams are committed to offering intensive psychologically-informed support to ensure the best possible care, both within community and inpatient settings. You will be based at the existing inpatient CAMHS unit at the Beacon unit in Leicester, which is also in the process of setting up a day unit program to enhance the care of the young people on the inpatient ward.

This post sits within a small team of occupational therapists within our Inpatient/ Day Service provision, supported by community colleagues within the acute risk pathway. The service will provide intensive, compassionate and recoveryfocused mental health support for young people and their families. We are now recruiting motivated and skilled professionals who are passionate about making a meaningful difference.

You will carry out occupational therapy consultations, assessments and hold a occupational therapeutic case load to help young people and their families to overcome barriers to successfully engage in occupations and things they want to do in life. You will work alongside doctors, education, social workers, SALT, family therapists and psychologists as part of the multidisciplinary team to care plan and deliver intervention to young people at risk of hospital admission. You will hold a small caseload of young people from within the service.

There is ongoing work across CAMHS and the wider Trust to embed anti-racist culture across our services to ensure that our services are accessible, effective and safe places for the diverse communities we serve within Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland (LLR). CAMHS has a Race Equity Group that works hard to address systemic inequalities and make CAMHS more culturally responsive. We also have a senior role focused on community participation and health inequalities that is focused on building more meaningful links with members of the communities we serve, and engage in meaningful co-production work to improve mental health support across LLR. The Trust also has a 'Together Against Racism' strategy, working with partner agencies to embed anti-racist practice across the organisation.

Job Description Summary (Main duties and responsibilities)

• Provide a range of Occupational Therapy assessments and treatment for young people and their Parent/Carers drawing on relevant OT models/ theory and following the OT process.

• Undertake routine and profession specific outcomes measures

• Completion of OT reports, individualised care plans and risk assessments

• Provide consultation to MDT and external services to support the occupational need/ strengths of young people

• Work in conjunction with other community and health professionals to deliver joined up care pathway to meet the specific need of the child/ young person and their family.

• Carry out clinical supervision of OTs within the service as delegated by Lead Occupational Therapist

• Offer regular placements to Occupational Therapy students, supervising as their practice educator.

• Contribute to audits and quality improvement activities and actively participate in service development.
