Job summary
We are launching a new CAMHS Day Patient service offering intensive, compassionate and recovery focused support for young people and their families.
Sitting between inpatient care and intensive community support, it complements the acute risk pathway in Leicestershire.
We are recruiting a Parenting Practitioner with lived CAMHS experience to join an existing peer role. The post ensures parent and carer voices shape service design and delivery. Using personal experience of supporting a young person across health, social care or education, the post holder will provide meaningful peer support, helping families feel heard, valued and involved. The role includes one to one support, group work, workshops and signposting to community resources. Strong communication, emotional resilience and teamwork are essential.
The Day Patient Provision offers structured therapeutic programmes, multidisciplinary input and a nurturing space to help young people stabilise their mental health, build resilience and stay connected to home and education. Presentations may include emotional regulation needs, trauma histories, ASD, intellectual disability or risks that could otherwise lead to admission. The team delivers intensive, psychologically informed care.

Main duties of the job
The Parent Peer Support Practitioner will work as part of the day unit Provision, providing peer based support to parents and carers of young people receiving care within the service.
Key responsibilities include assessing carers needs in collaboration with the MDT; offering emotional and practical support to reduce carer stress and burnout; facilitating psychoeducational and therapeutic groups; and supporting parents and carers to engage confidently in their child's treatment and develop their own coping strategies.
The role involves championing the principle of parents as partners, strengthening communication between families and the clinical team, and supporting the development of compassionate, inclusive pathways for families.
The post holder will contribute to multidisciplinary meetings, maintain accurate records, and work collaboratively with internal and external services to ensure families are well supported. You will participate in supervision, training and service development activities, and uphold clinical governance, safeguarding and confidentiality standards in line with Trust policies.
The role requires flexibility and may include working in community, outpatient and home settings.
An Enhanced DBS check is required.
The service will operate 7 days per week, from 8:30am to 6pm and it is anticipated there is a level of flexibility from applicants across those days to meet the needs of parents/ carers within the service.
