We have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Psychologist to join our team on a fixed term contract until 30th September 2026 within the Directorate of Adult Mental Health as part of the Acute Inpatient Team.
As an Assistant Psychologist in the Acute Inpatient Team, you will be based at the Bradgate Mental Health Unit, Glenfield Hospital, which provides acute inpatient care to male and female working-age adults. The unit consists of 6 acute wards and 2 Psychiatric Intensive Care Units (PICUs). Service Users within the acute inpatient mental health service present at times of crisis, often experiencing high levels of emotional distress, and typically have complex, severe and enduring mental health difficulties. Leicester is ethnically diverse, and this good cultural diversity is reflected in our caseloads. The Inpatient Psychology Team work proactively and creatively to embed psychological thinking and a formulation-driven approach across a busy inpatient unit.
The team is warm, forward-thinking, inclusive and supportive, and have fostered good links across the directorate. It is an exciting time within the service as work is commencing in early 2026 to develop the inpatient therapeutic pathway.
Main duties of the job
This is a fantastic opportunity to develop clinical skills by facilitating group work and 1:1 work. The successful postholders will also deliver bespoke off ward groups with a clinical psychologist or psychological therapist. You will work closely with your clinical supervisor and ward teams, which will enable you to foster good working relationships. There will be opportunity for you to participate in team formulation sessions and reflective practice.

Other duties include: -
Direct clinical work including co-facilitation of groups, 1:1 clinical work or potentially working with the individuals system e.g. family/carers.
-Attending MDT daily review meetings and departmental meetings and team development slots - Engaging in reflective practice sessions
-Conducting quality improvement projects
- To work with the inpatient psychology team to support the delivery of a high-quality, responsive and accessible psychological service.
- To engage in regular clinical and managerial supervision
- To provide education and training to clinical staff working within or external to the Trust
