Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen within our Families, Young People, Children's and Learning Disability and Autism (FYPCLDA) Directorate for a Cleft Specialist Speech and Language Therapist working as part of the multi-disciplinary team across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, for 1 day per week.
We are looking for a highly motivated, compassionate and skilled speech and language therapist, who brings excellent team working and energy for delivery of high-quality services to children and young people with complex speech sound difficulties and cleft lip and palate.
The successful candidate will have significant experience in assessment and therapy of speech sound disorders, and confidence in diagnostic speech processes. They must also be keen to further develop their expertise in cleft lip and palate.
This post can be offered as Band 6 to Band 7 progression post. Starting as a Band 6 the progression period would be up to 18 months, leading to transition to Band 7 (subject to attaining the required levels of competency which is detailed in thorough competency documentation).
Training, support, and supervision would be provided from external training opportunities, regional networks, the SLT service for paediatrics across UHL and LPT, with opportunities for mentorship and support, and from the wider MDT.
The post holder will provide highly specialist, evidence-based clinical practice in their role.
Main duties of the job
- To provide highly specialist assessment, diagnosis and intervention approaches for children and young people with identified needs in cleft lip and palate or velopharyngeal dysfunction.
- Developing and maintaining highly specialist professional practice knowledge and skills, providing supervision and training to staff and linking with partner agencies.
- Participate as an active member of the speech and language therapy service leadership team, being responsible for service development, quality assurance and areas for improvement.
- Working closely with the Trent regional lead speech and language therapist and others in the network.
- Interpreting and implementing national and regional policies relating to the management of cleft lip and palate across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.
- Working with multidisciplinary colleagues at University Hospitals of Leicester.
