We are looking for a compassionate, experienced, and motivated Band 6 Deputy Ward Sister to join our dedicated team on Heather Ward.

Heather Ward is an 18-bedded female acute mental health ward, providing high-quality, person-centred care to individuals experiencing mental health difficulties.

This role offers an excellent opportunity to further develop your clinical expertise and leadership skills while making a real difference to patients lives. As a Band 6 Deputy Ward Sister, you will: Support the Charge Nurse in the day-to-day management of the ward. Take charge in their absence, ensuring the highest standards of clinical care and patient experience. Provide guidance and mentorship to junior staff and students, fostering a positive and supportive learning environment.

Main duties of the job

Deputise and take charge of the designated area in the absence of the Charge Nurse.

Be a role model in delivering compassionate, person-centred care and support a culture of kindness, safety, and respect. Mentor, teach, supervise and assess students and learners on placement.

Support the ongoing education and development of nursing staff.

Work collaboratively with senior nurses, the wider multidisciplinary team, and external stakeholders to promote excellent mental health care and develop the role of specialist nursing across the Trust.

Provide visible, professional nursing leadership, clinical advice, and management relating to key dimensions of healthcare quality:

o Patient Safety

o Effectiveness of Health Care Interventions

o Patient Experience

o Quality of the Care Environment

Support effective clinical leadership and contribute to the operational management of the ward.

Actively contribute to continuous quality improvement, service development, and the implementation of evidence-based practice to meet the needs of service users and their families.
