We are looking for a positive, proactive individual to join our team at Mill Lodge, someone who is passionate about delivering high-quality care and continuously improving services. Mill Lodge is a 14 bedded Specialist Unit who cares for patients diagnosed with Huntington's Disease which is a rare, inherited disease that causes the progressive breakdown (degeneration) of nerve cells in the brain.
Huntington's disease has a wide impact on a person's functional abilities and usually results in movement, thinking (cognitive) and psychiatric disorders. This is a challenging but immensely rewarding area of mental health nursing and to be successful in this role, you will need to be enthusiastic, forward thinking and emotionally resilient.
You will be working within a supportive multidisciplinary team (MDT), caring for patients with a rare and degenerative condition. You will also be able to develop your skills in both mental health and physical health nursing due to the complex nature of Huntington's Disease.
Main duties of the job
As a Mental Health Nurse at Mill Lodge, you will: Deliver evidence-based, person-centred care to all service users on the ward. Take charge of shifts, including delegating responsibilities, coordinating tasks, and prioritising workloads.
Maintain your professional registration and mandatory training, and engage in clinical supervision. Assess and review patient care, develop and implement care plans, and work collaboratively with families and carers. Work as part of a multidisciplinary team, including doctors, nurses, healthcare support workers, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, and dieticians. Manage the administration of medications in line with policy and procedures.
Maintain accurate and confidential care records, ensuring compliance with data protection requirements. Take a proactive approach to improving patient care, escalating incidents, and addressing concerns or complaints. Build strong therapeutic relationships with service users, underpinned by open and effective communication.
