Job summary

The death of a child is a devastating loss that profoundly affects parents, as well as siblings, grandparents, extended family, friends and professionals. Families experiencing such a tragedy should be met with empathy and compassion. They need clear and sensitive communication and support to understand what happened to their child and know, where learning is identified, this will be acted upon. The process of reviewing all childrens deaths is grounded in deep respect for the rights of children and their families, with the intention of preventing future child deaths. We are looking for compassionate nurses to ensure the voice of the child and family are heard. The child death review process aims to reduce child mortality rates, ensure families are supported and that lessons identified are embedded in practice. This is a rewarding role and the post holder will work in a small supportive team in partnership with the Designated Doctor for Child Death and key partner agencies.

Main duties of the job

In this role you will have oversight of all child deaths in LLR and support the Designated Dr for Child Death (DDCD) and other Child Death Review Nurses (CDRNs) to ensure a robust and high-quality Child Death Review Process. (CDOP). Working with bereaved families is central to the role and you will be a named link for families, visiting them at home to explain the Child Death Review Process and giving them the opportunity to contribute to the process, Identify if there are any immediate concerns (either in relation to the child who has died or any other child/ren or adult within the household) and ensuring the appropriate actions are taken and compile a report following the visit for HM Coroner. Support the DDCD and other CDRNs in reporting activity, performance and quality to the Child Death Review Partners and the Safeguarding Children's Partnership and support the dissemination of relevant outcomes, training, campaigns, audit and research.
