We have an exciting opportunity for a Mental Health Practitioner to join our Mental Health Liaison Service.
The team is based in the Leicester Royal Infirmary and provide assessments for over 18's presenting in the acute medical setting with primary or co-morbid mental health problems. We offer an urgent assessment service to people attending the Emergency Departments in times of mental health crisis, and an assessment and liaison service to the medical wards across the 3 UHL sites. The service operates 24/7, days and nights.
The Mental Health Liaison Service experiences a high number of referrals which can be complex and challenging. This provides an excellent opportunity to enhance your practice and develop your nursing skills. We would require an enthusiastic, motivated and experienced RMN, OT or social worker with relevant post registration experience. You would work as part of the established team and would need to demonstrate flexibility and a commitment to high standards of patient care. The ideal candidate will have already gained experience in mental health nursing within an acute setting (in-patient, crisis team) and have robust and sound clinical assessment and decision-making skills
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be able to work autonomously and as part of a wider team, review and triage of referrals whilst completing comprehensive patient centred assessments and completing risk assessments.
Sharing of information relating to patient mental health history and involvement with services and supporting any advice around specialist treatment plans. The post requires excellent communication skills both written and verbal and the ability to work in a dynamic and busy environment. As always, we expect decision-making to be made in collaboration with our service users and carers with a view to facilitating treatment in the least restrictive environment.
The post holder will be tasked with; Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, across the mental health and acute medical trust Working collaborative with service users and families/carers.
Referring on to and liaising with other agencies Arrangement of admissions to mental health inpatient services (including MHA assessments) where required.
Be able to work autonomously and as part of a wider team Providing general advice and liaison to support the care of patients with mental health needs within the acute hospital setting.
Supporting the education and mental health awareness amongst other healthcare professionals.
