The role of Peer Support Worker has been developed to specifically utilise the skills of people who have lived experience of having received Secondary Care Mental Health services. Through sharing wisdom from their own experiences, Peer Support Workers will inspire hope and belief that recovery is possible in others.

The role will provide formalised peer support and practical assistance to service users in order for them to regain control over their lives and their own unique recovery process. Within a relationship of mutuality and information sharing, they will promote choice, self-determination and opportunities for the fulfilment of personally valued roles and connection to local communities. Individual roles may target specific age groups for example young people or older people whilst other roles may work across an age range.

Please note that possessing a UK driving licence and means to drive is an essential requirement for this role, any applicants without a driving licence and car will not be considered.

Main duties of the job

To support those that are unable to attend clinic or unable to access virtual technology.

To enable support in patients own homes to access virtual memory assessment appointments.

Must be a car driver as locations maybe anywhere across Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland.

Ability to use IT systems or willingness to learn to support patients access to have timely memory assessments and reviews. To liaise with duty worker/team deputies/lead with any concerns regarding risk.

To liaise with patients and carers ahead of appointments to confirm attendance and support with information about location of appointment, parking, or how to access appointment online. To support in collecting patient/relative/carer feedback.

In addition to Establishing supportive, positive and respectful relationships with all people you come in contact with. Providing peer support, maintaining professional boundaries. Helping people identify recovery goals themselves. Supporting service users to identify and overcome fears within a relationship of empathy and trust. Undertaking appropriate administrative duties for delivering effective and timely care, including updating patient records.
