Job summary

We have a permanent full time vacancy for an Occupational Therapy Assistant at The Willows, LE5 0LE. This is an exciting opportunity to join the mental health rehabilitation pathway offering support and mental health rehabilitation focused interventions for adults with severe and enduring mental health difficulties during admission.

Are you able to demonstrate experience and ability in both supporting patients with and assessing functional / cognitive skills and difficulties.

We would welcome applications from those with experience of working with adults with severe and enduring mental health diagnosis in an MDT. Ideally you will have worked with Occupational Therapists previously and give evidence of understanding the theory, skills and working practices of OT or those who can demonstrate enthusiasm and motivation to work with our client group showing transferrable skills from other adult healthcare services.

You will be able to deliver individual treatment plans which enable service users to develop or maintain their functional / cognitive skills and abilities using graded/adaptive strategies during their recovery. You will be able to demonstrate how you would use your own physical skills to help maintain or regain functional ability to our patients.

You must be able to demonstrate risk awareness. Contributing to the MDT in managing risk and risk assessments.

Main duties of the job

This post is a permanent full-time position at 37.5 hours per week between 8.30 to 4.30 Monday to Friday.

The successful candidate will work in an MDT team with Band 6, Band 5 Occupational Therapists & Band 3 Occupational Therapy Assistants to provide information to the qualified staff to ensure we deliver appropriate OT Assessments and interventions to patients using Functional, Psycho-social, Cognitive and Physical Health approaches.

This role also incorporates the requirement of either being a qualified gym instructor L2 or willing and able to complete the training. The gym instructor will be required to utilise our gym equipment for patient use, demonstrate to patients the correct techniques for use of the equipment, design short exercise programmes and be responsible for monitoring use of all equipment in the gym.
