We are looking for a skilled and passionate Nurse RMN, either with experience, or newly qualified, to join our dedicated team at Mill Lodge Specialist Unit for people with Huntington's Disease (HD).
Huntington's disease is a rare, inherited disease that causes the progressive breakdown (degeneration) of nerve cells in the brain. Huntington's disease has a wide impact on a person's functional abilities and usually results in movement, thinking (cognitive) and psychiatric disorders.
This is a challenging but immensely rewarding area of mental health nursing to be successful in this role, you will need to be enthusiastic, forward thinking and emotionally resilient. You will be working within a supportive multidisciplinary team (MDT), caring for patients with a rare and degenerative condition
You will receive comprehensive training, including specific training around the care and management of people with Huntington's Disease. You will also be able to develop your skills in both mental health and physical health nurse due to the complex nature of Huntington's Disease.

Main duties of the job
Your main duties will include:
Working in collaboration with patients, their families, and the MDT to develop packages of care which aim to maximise the independence of our patients, whilst safely managing their risks
- Administration of medication based upon the mental and physical health needs of people with HD
- Participating in MDT meetings, leading care-programme approach reviews and other clinical meetings as required
- Co-ordinating the unit in the absence of the Band 7 and Band 6cs after a period of induction/preceptorship
- Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating programmes of evidenced-based nursing care to a group of clients/service users.
- Assisting and contributing in the management and organisation of a ward / clinical area.
- Actively contribute to setting and maintaining high standards of quality nursing care.
- Actively participate in the education, development and supervision of other staff members.
- Act as a clinical and professional role model, assessing and supporting students and learners on placement within the clinical area.
- Support patients with both mental and physical health needs
