Job summary

To work as part of a team within the Paediatric Phlebotomy and Outpatients service.

The main responsibility of this role will be to work as part of a team to provide support to prepare and distract children and young people attending Phlebotomy and Out-patient clinics across Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland.

The role will involve providing diversion to patients whilst having a blood test. We have use of ipads, books, games and toys to help reduce anxiety and aid compliance.

It also requires you to make contact with parents prior to the appointment to establish what additional needs the child may have.

This is to prepare the team and yourself to customise the best diversion possible for the child's individual needs.

The role also involves working in Community Paediatric Clinics assisting the consultants with heights, weights, Blood Pressure. These are run from clinics within Leicester and Leicestershire.

Training and support will be provided to develop the skills to qualify as a Paediatric Phlebotomist and Outpatient assistant.

Main duties of the job

1. To provide preparation and diversion through specialist play working closely with the support and direction of the Team Leader and/or qualified staff.

2. To provide support to carry out invasive procedures and complex care to specific children and young people.

3. To work closely with childrens parents and carers providing a service that is sensitive to their wishes and needs.

4. To provide play support to children, families, and carers during any required procedure in the clinic setting and within the community.

5. To provide appropriate child centred fun activities in clinical waiting areas.

6. To be responsible for the maintenance and setting up of clinics in various community settings.

7. To support all service users of the child and family support service.

8. To demonstrate the Trusts values in everything you do in the work environment and live up the LPT Pledge.

9. To be responsible in the use and expenditure of the Trusts resources that you utilise.

10. Delivery of Effective Healthcare within the organisation.

11. Establishing Effective Leadership and Communication.

12. Continuing Education, Professional and Personal Development.

13. To achieve the skill and competence to qualify as a Paediatric Phlebotomist and Outpatient assistant.
