Job summary

Are you a newly qualified speech and language therapist or do you have a little more experience? Do you want to work as part of a small but supportive team making a real difference to the lives of people with a learning disability? If so, we'd love to hear from you.

We have the exciting opportunity for Band 5 speech and language therapists to join our Learning Disability Speech and Language Therapy team.

You will be working across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland as part of a wide-ranging MDT, supporting a huge variety of patients with a learning disability and communication difficulties.

You will be working in homes, day services, with carers, families and the individuals themselves to ensure that everyone is included in the planning and delivery of care.

We also have the opportunity to work in our LD Crisis Support team supporting urgent communication assessments.

You will find us a supportive team, with lots of supervision, CPD opportunities and the chance to develop special interests. We have fun too, with regular health and wellbeing activities that we would love you to be a part of.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the role are:

  • Holding a caseload of communication clients
  • Providing assessment, diagnosis, intervention, training and outcome measures around a range of communication difficulties in the community of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland
  • Completing contemporaneous records using our computer system
  • Adding to service improvement discussions and projects

  • Health Professional Council- Licence to Practice
  • Registered Member of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
  • Access to a car with full driver's licence and business insurance.

  • Knowledge and Skills
  • 3.1 Overview knowledge of assessment tools used with Adults with a Learning Disability (ALD) and why these would be used
  • 3.2 Knowledge of the type of interventions appropriate to ALD and expected outcomes
  • 3.3 awareness of the principles of clinical governance
  • 3.4 awareness of standards of record keeping
  • 3.5 understanding of Valuing People and overall focus of Learning Disability Services
