Job summary
We are looking for enthusiastic, proactive, motivated and caring individuals who have previous experience of working within an inpatient Mental Health / Learning Disabilities setting to join the Occupational Therapy team at the Agnes Unit
To take a lead role in the planning and delivery of social and recreational opportunities for inpatients at the Agnes unit.
To assist qualified Occupational Therapy staff in the delivery of assessment and treatment programmes, accessing all resources available both within and outside the unit as appropriate.
To provide support to band 2 Health Care Support Workers within the unit to develop their understanding of and promote their engagement within therapeutic activity.
To provide a direct link with Pod based staff to support and advise on the development of pod based activities.
To take responsibility as appropriate within all safety and administration procedures.
To support the nursing team as required and negotiated with senior Occupational Therapist / Ward Matron in order to meet patient needs / ensure safe levels of staffing across the unit.
Main duties of the job
You will take an active role under the direction of a Qualified Occupational Therapist in identifying the therapeutic needs of patients through active engagement in the assessment process
To plan, organise and implement activities in accordance with Occupational Therapy care plans.
To lead on the planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient community visits to a variety of settings as part of the therapeutic activity program. This includes supporting patients within the community who are receiving care under a section of the Mental Health Act
To carry out assigned tasks in support of Qualified Occupational Therapy staff and to achieve agreed standards of care in line with Trust policies, procedures, and guidelines
To utilise appropriate communication and interpersonal skills with the patient group and staff teams, liaising with family, carers, and other agencies as appropriate within the boundaries of the role.
To ensure that interventions carried out are person centred and promote equality for all individuals.
To actively support and encourage individuals to achieve their set goals.
Demonstrate the necessary written skills in reporting, record keeping and group work planning.
