Job summary
The Learning Disability Community Team is long established and works to improve the lives of adults with a learning disability in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.
The Learning Disability Forensic Team is recently established and works to holistically improve the lives of learning disabled people who have had involvement with the police or been placed in hospitals outside of our area.
We have a full-time vacancy for an enthusiastic and knowledgeable speech and language therapist. Half your time you will spend working with our community patients, managing communication and dysphagia cases. The remaining time will be spend working in our Learning Disability Forensic service supporting LD adults in placements across the country, working to return individuals home.
This is an exciting and unique opportunity to develop a clinical specialism as well as maintaining your generalist LD skills.
Additionally you will work with learning disabled individuals with a forensic context and will be act as both a forensic practitioner and a speech and language therapist.
Working across two teams you will find a supportive and wide-ranging multidisciplinary team including psychology, nursing, occupational therapy and physiotherapy as well as access to dieticians and psychiatry.
You will have regular management and clinical supervision, reflective practice sessions and CPD opportunities.
There are opportunities for blended and flexible working, career development and MDT working.
Main duties of the job
- The post allows for working across two different specialties (learning disabilities and forensics) with development opportunities within both roles allowing for development of a variety of skills.
- Would require ongoing development of the SALT role within the forensic community learning disability team, within a team that is evolving and consistently adapting.
- The post-holder would work within a multi-disciplinary team with SALT, psychology, nursing and psychiatry within the forensic team and the opportunity for close MDT working within the team.
- Regular supervision from within both the forensic community team and SALT community learning disability teams to ensure support needs are met.
- The post-holder will have the opportunity to work with individuals from marginalised populations to support them to live their best lives.
- Holistic working is encouraged and person-centred care is a vital component at the centre of the care provided.
- The role will provide the opportunity to work with complex individuals with a variety of needs.
