Job summary

Positive Behaviour Support Practitioners - CAMHS Outpatients & LD Teams.

These vacancies form part of an exciting expansion of the implementation & embedding of the PBS framework across CAMHS Outpatient Teams whilst expanding the current expertise & service provision within CAMHS LDT.

Following successful trials of implementing PBS approaches for children/young people with Autism &/or Mild Intellectual (Learning) Developmental Disability, we are widening this provision into CAMHS outpatient Teams in order to enable equity of access to this provision at an earlier stage in their care.

It is envisaged this provision will aid in the reduction of the presentation of behaviours of concern, enable CYP & their families, to understand their diagnosis, associated difficulties & learn how to implement appropriate strategies in home. In addition, the provision of training, support & mentoring for CAMHS clinicians within outpatient services will be provided to build upon existing knowledge & skills & equip case holders for supporting, reviewing & updating PBS plans as required.

Post holders will undertake holistic assessments under the PBS framework enabling an holistic plan to be developed that highlights all areas of need for the CYP, how these needs can be met & who is best placed to meet them.

To prevent hold ups in this process the post holders will not hold cases long term but will pass completed plans to lead professionals once psycho education with CYP & families is complete.

Main duties of the job

The post holders will work under the guidance of the PBS senior practitioner and PBS lead undertaking assessments of CYP open to CAMHS outpatient services in line with the principles of PBS to develop a full holistic understanding of the CYP, including how their diagnosis and life events impact upon them and how they mitigate and communicate this impact through the presentation of behaviours of concern. Initial plans of how these can be avoided, reduced and managed will also be developed as part of this process to enable some immediate strategies to be implemented.

Implementation of these plans may include time limited direct work within the home to aid the CYP and parents to follow and implement changes and strategies recommended.

The PBS practitioner will provide psychoeducation to the CYP and their families based around the plans to aid their understanding of the CYP needs and difficulties, and share as appropriate to others involved with the CYP, including the CAMHS LP.

If required, functional assessment will be undertaken for individual behaviours with subsequent development of management plans, which include least restrictive strategies.

They will also participate in the provision of parent/carer workshops, training for professionals and followup consultations for lead professionals.

The posts holders will also undertake patient and parent group work within CAMHS LDT to ensure a wide range of skills and knowledge aquired and maintained.
