This vacancy is for a Band 8B Principal Psychotherapist with substantial NHS experience to join this well-established specialist NHS psychotherapy service. The service currently offers individual, brief and group psychotherapy.

We are a supportive department with a strong commitment to continuing professional development and training. We provide an educational setting for the training of psychotherapists and have links to various training organisations.

We are delighted to offer the opportunity to contribute to the development of Psychodynamic Psychotherapy in the NHS. The Leicestershire Trust is developing integrated practice and the post holder should be able to work collaboratively with our colleagues within Specialist Psychological Therapies and more widely across the Trust. Our aim is to increase the application of psychoanalytic thinking and the post-holder will provide consultation and supervision to health and social care staff regarding complex clinical matters.

Ideally we wish to recruit full time but applications from those wishing to work alternative hours or a job share will be considered. We encourage flexible working and combined working from home and base.

Leicester is about an hour by train from London. Relocation expenses may be available to successful candidates wishing to move to the region.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will carry a full clinical caseload seeing patients under supervision for individual, brief and group psychoanalytic psychotherapy. They will screen and assess new referrals and consult with others about their assessments.

The post holder should be an experienced supervisor and be prepared to take on supervision of team members and take on specific projects and delegated areas of management as well as deputising for the Head of Service when required. They will line manage psychodynamic psychotherapy staff members.

We are a training department and have offered training at introductory, intermediate and specialist levels. The post holder would be prepared to be a tutor, and be able to contribute new ideas to the department's existing teaching activities. There will be opportunities for leading seminars, supervising trainees and other educational involvement.

Potential applicants must be able to provide significant emotional containment over long time periods, and tolerate significant relational challenge whilst maintaining a therapeutic frame.

The post holder will be linked to a local mental health team and will contribute from a psychoanalytic perspective to meetings and assessments of that team.
