Secondment Cover for Maternity Leave
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced practitioner to join a dynamic and innovative Infection Prevention and Control Team. The aim of the post is to assist the Infection Prevention & Control Team in providing a high-profile Infection Prevention and Control service to the Trust to reduce the incidence of healthcare associated infections. The post holder with support will be expected to provide a visible, proactive approach to prevention, surveillance, investigation, and control of infection, including the review, formulation, implementation and education of evidence-based infection prevention and control practices, in line with national and Trust policy. The post holder would be expected to participate in developing the learning needs of the Infection Prevention and Control Link Staff in liaison with the clinical leads and other members of the Infection Prevention and Control Team. The post holder will be a strong patient advocate, providing visible leadership and ensuring that the care of patients reflects best clinical standards and that all patients are treated with dignity and respect in line with Trust Values.
Main duties of the job
Pennine Care NHS Trust NHS Foundation Trust provides mental health and learning disability services in parts of Greater Manchester and Derbyshire. It provides mental health and learning disability services in Stockport, Tameside, Oldham, Rochdale and Bury, so a car driver is essential to this role.
The senior practitioner for infection prevention and control (IPC) Practitioner will support staff and patients within the mental health and learning disability Trust by giving advice on IPC issues relating to IPC practices and patient care in all wards and community clinics and recording this advice on electronic record keeping systems.
The post holder will be expected to provide a proactive approach to prevention, surveillance, investigation, and control of infection within the Trust. This will include the review, formulation, implementation, and education of evidence-based infection control practices.
Daily monitoring of Ulysses, investigating incidents reported by staff and making IPC recommendations and giving support.
Take a leading role on undertaking the IPC audits as per IPC Annual Workplan. Auditing patient environments, hand hygiene, PPE, and community clinics. Liaising with the Clinical Effectiveness department to produce reports and assist wards to identify risks and implement improvement plans.

Essential
- RGN/RMN/RNMH/AHP plus short courses and experience to Masters level
- Evidence of continuous professional development
- Current registration
Desirable
- Infection control post graduate qualification (e.g., infection control module/Foundation Course)
- Relevant teaching qualification (e.g., ENB998, City & Guilds 730 or equivalent)
Experience
Essential
- Substantial experience at Band 6 or above
- Current Operational Infection Prevention and Control experience
- Ability to cover for Lead Nurse and colleagues.
- Experience of training or supervision of staff involved in ANTT
- Experience of activities related to infection control (e.g., Link Practitioners/IPC Champions)
- Teaching/education in formal and informal situations
- Delivering improvements in patient care
- Experience with change management
