Job summary
Following significant investment, we are expanding our Allied Health Profession provision across our inpatient mental health services. We are looking for a Dietitian to join our AHP inpatient team working across our North Divisional Care Hub (Bury, HMR, Oldham). This is an exciting opportunity working with service users with a range of mental health and dietetic needs.
Main duties of the job
You will work closely with the speech and language therapists and physiotherapists in the team, as well as the ward based multidisciplinary teams including nursing staff, occupational therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists, pharmacists, advanced practitioners, and peer support workers. Candidates should be autonomous practitioners who share our passion for delivering high quality interventions within a range of inpatient services, including working age adult and older adult mental health as well as our services providing inpatient rehabilitation and high support. We will support you to develop your skills and creativity in this role through separate management and clinical supervision, as well as links with other Dietitians in the trust through our trust wide Dietetic Forum. -Assess and monitor patients, offering therapeutic dietary advice and education to a range of patients within inpatient services-Provide specialist nutritional and dietetic advice to medical, health care professionals and other agencies.-Contribute to the nutrition and dietetic service as a whole through participation in service development -Training for staff and patients to improve service delivery-Work independently to undertake nutritional assessments and calculate nutritional requirements of patients using anthropometry and taking into account medical, social and cultural factors.-Communicate evidence based nutritional and dietary advice in an understandable form.-Use well developed communication and counselling skills such as reflective listening, open questioning, empathy, explanation and reassurance to communicate dietary intervention to patients and carers.-To work with other health professionals in a multidisciplinary way to support patient care.-Decide daily on priorities for own work area balancing patient related and professional demands-Work in collaboration with other trust Dietitians within inpatients to effectively plan and coordinate care ensuring access is provided across inpatient services-Contribute to the training of pre-registration dietetic students on clinical placement including clinical work, tutorials, feedback and assessment if required-Develop educational resources, which are evidence based and acceptable to patients and carers-Undertake group education sessions with patients, carers and staff on food and nutrition Clinical governance:-Identify personal training needs through participation in regular Continuous Professional Development activities and Individual Performance Development Review-Maintain a personal portfolio as evidence of competence to practice.-Undertake defined audit projects as part of clinical practice-Contribute to the development of team and evidence-based treatment policies, protocols, standards and guidelines Professional development, quality and service development-Participation in reflective practice with an appropriate clinical supervisor- Maintaining and updating own knowledge by updating professional knowledge and competencies of professional practice.
