Bank Speech & Language Therapist Adult/Older Adult Mental Health (Band 7)

We are looking to recruit Speech and Language Therapists experienced in working with adults to our bank to support services across our footprint - Bury, Heywood, Middleton, Rochdale, Oldham, Tameside, Stockport. Therapists will support service delivery across inpatient mental health services working with a range of communication and dysphagia caseloads. Candidates should be autonomous dysphagia practitioners who share our passion for delivering high quality interventions and embrace our Trust values of kindness, fairness, ingenuity and determination.

Working on the bank you will be offered the opportunity to undertake bookings across the services provided by Pennine Care. Roles vary in booking length, hours and location including flexible weekend and evening work.

Main duties of the job

Main Duties

To deliverr the SLT input for adults with organic and/or functional mental health disorders within inpatient services

Multi-disciplinary Team working and good communication skills are paramount within this role

  • To be responsible for managing a speech and language therapy caseload within

inpatient services

  • To adhere to national and local standards and guidelines relating to Professional

Practice including RCSLT, NICE etc.

  • To be autonomous and responsible for highly specialist assessment, differential

diagnosis, formulation of treatment plans, writing assessment reports, providing

appropriate intervention and evaluating the treatment outcome for each individual

patient

  • To be able to relate assessment findings to presenting impairment / pathology
  • To prioritise, organise and manage a clinical caseload to ensure efficient and

effective high quality patient care

  • To review and discharge individual patients

Education/Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree level qualification Speech / Language / Pathology / Therapy
  • HCPC licence to practice
  • Evidence of successful completion of relevant specialist short courses to maintain and develop a sound knowledge base of a specialist therapist working in the field of adult acquired swallowing and communication difficulties to Masters Level
  • Certificate in dysphagia or equivalent - in-depth practical experience in the field of dysphagia
  • Maintenance of clinical knowledge base / level of professional competency across the range of acquired communication and swallowing disorders to ensure evidence based practice
  • Membership of R.C.S.L.T
  • Further training in end of life issues

Desirable

  • Masters degree
  • Further post-grad dysphagia training

Experience

Essential

  • Proven post registration experience at a band 6 or above of working with: acquired communication difficulties and/or mental health issues and/or service users with a learning disability
  • Proven post registration experience at a band 6 or above of working independently with patients with swallowing difficulties
  • Experience of prioritising communication and swallowing referrals to speech and language therapy
  • Experience of working within a multidisciplinary team including development of shared goals and care planning
  • Supervision of junior staff or support workers
