Job summary
Orchard House Day Hospital is part of the older peoples mental health services provided by Pennine Care NHS Trust. The service offers a wide range of group interventions to help our patients regain their confidence and motivation following a period of being unwell and works closely with other teams and community services. The Technical Instructor supports our Occupational Therapists in providing both individual and group interventions to our patients. The post will involve running groups supporting physical, social and cognitive skills including learning more about different conditions and developing practical skills.
Main duties of the job
The role of Technical Instructor is to work alongside the Occupational Therapist and to carry out either individually or group activities, identified by the occupational therapist which will be aimed at enabling individuals to become more independent, confident and able to cope with problems they encounter because of their mental health problems. The activities which the Technical Instructor plans alongside the occupational therapist are practical activities and will be carried out either within the day hospital or in the community. The activities will include relaxation, gaining confidence in using community facilities, social activities and practical living skills such as preparing food and drinks.
The post holder will work with the full multi-disciplinary team and provide groups as part of the Orchard House Team to ensure that the service which we offer helps our patients to regain as much of their independence as possible and to play an active role within their families and the community in which they live.

Our service supports patients who have had mental health problems which have brought them into contact with either our acute wards, our crisis team or the community mental health team. All of our patients have functional conditions including psychosis, bi-polar disorder, anxiety , we do not offer a service to people with dementia as our service is focused on recovery.
