Main Duties and Responsibilities Research Grant DevelopmentResponsible for providing advice and support to investigators and act as their main point of contact, including:Advising whether a project is research, audit or service evaluation and appropriate proceduresAgreeing sponsor for all studiesPerforming study-site assessments for Trust sponsored studies, ensuring satisfactory facilities and personnel to perform research projectsSupporting investigators to identify relevant NIHR portfolio accredited funding steamsSupporting investigators to identify innovation funding streams where appropriate
providing costings for grant applications ensuring that these are robust and in line with local, regional and national guidance
communicating complex information regarding grant applications and research funding to multiple stakeholders at varying levelsIdentifying and recruiting co-investigators with a significant research track record to strengthen grant applications as required by fundersSupporting investigators in the completion of grant applicationsSupporting investigators in completion of the IRAS form enabling them to submit to the Health Research Authority and relevant Research Ethics CommitteeLiaising with commercial companies, national academic institutions, NHS organisations and internal service providers including finance, pharmacy, medical devices and information governanceReviewing and recommending for approval legal documents (commercial and non- commercial contracts, indemnity and insurance)Identifying costs in study protocols and agree charges together with Research Accountant, service providers, academic institutions, NHS organisations and commercial companies
Attributing costs in line with the NIHR AcoRD guidance, working with the Divisional Finance Manager to recover Excess Treatment Costs and Service Support costs from the Greater Manchester Clinical Research Network (GM CRN) and the NIHR central commissioning facilityIssues relating to the setting in place and management of Agreements, together with contracts, indemnity and intellectual property, including:Providing and receiving complex, sensitive information related to contracts and agreementsPreparing and reviewing Material Transfer Agreements for studies involving human tissue in researchAdvising the Department on Clinical Trials Agreements with external sponsors of research including commercial companiesAdvising the Department on site agreements with national institutions for multi-centre trialsAdvising the Department on indemnity and insurance arrangements for trials;Liaising with Trustech (an NHS Innovation hub) for putting in place intellectual property contractsReview and negotiate research costings in conjunction with divisional finance manager and senior R&I Staff. Maintain knowledge of financial position of the department and assist in negotiating agreements with local, regional and national funding bodies.Aiding the Trust in amending consent forms and policies so that these documents are kept up to date and are in line with the legislation surrounding the use of human tissue in researchResearch Skills, Knowledge and CapacityIdentifying and engaging with new recruits interested in developing research expertiseAct as a link between the educational and research work streams of the MMU/PCFT PartnershipKeeping abreast of national and local developmentsTo attend regional and national research meetings and training in relation to clinical research as appropriate, noting issues of relevance and reporting back to the team.To attend and contribute to project management group meetings for specific research projects

Responsibility for line managing research governance staffOffer supervision to junior staffOther DutiesParticipate in departmental meetings and contribute to effective communication within the departmentTo foster a culture of research and development and benchmarking to promote and embed evidence-based, best practice in patient care.Act as a mentor to new members of staff, ensuring all procedures are followed and the service is delivered to a high standardBe responsible for identifying own professional development needs, and meeting these through self-directed learning and attendance at workshops, conferences and courses. In addition, if a registered professional, responsible for maintaining registration requirements and meeting these by ensuring compliance with clinical contact hours and supervision including reflective practice. Actively support nursing and other students on placement within the R&I service
