Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for an Educational Psychologist to join the Cambridge Centre for Paediatric Neuropsychological Rehabilitation (CCPNR). Fixed term contract for 6 months.

The post offers an exceptional opportunity to contribute to this pioneering service, offering specialist holistic neuropsychological rehabilitation to children and adolescents with acquired brain injury, referred from across the East of England. The post holder will be a qualified Educational Psychologist with expertise in assessment and intervention with children and young people with acquired brain injury. The key role is to ensure the development of high quality, brain injury related Educational Psychology provision and intervention within the CCPNR.

As a member of a 10 strong interdisciplinary service, you will be senior member of the team with the skills and specialist knowledge to support the needs of children and young people with non-progressive acquired brain injury. Their needs may be complex with a range of interacting cognitive, social, emotional and physical difficulties.

Main duties of the job

This post is part of the interdisciplinary service commitment to deliver Rehabilitation Packages to children and young people and their families, living with the consequences of acquired brain injury.

The post holder will be responsible for a caseload of children/young people with acquired brain injury who require neuropsychological assessment and/or rehabilitation. Their needs will be complex in nature requiring specialist skills to support their access to education.

The post holder will be expected to lead by example, demonstrating a commitment to client focused and evidence-based practice in all areas of his/her work. They will also be expected to work as an interdisciplinary team member taking on a co-ordinating role with clients as required.

1. To be able to advise staff at senior management level on whole school systems and processes that enable access and inclusion for pupils/students with a wide range of individual needs arising from an acquired brain injury (ABI)

2. To be able to combine knowledge about the needs of pupils with the skills necessary to operate successfully in a wide range of educational settings (nursery, primary and/or secondary and post 16).

3. To review and interpret records and strategies at SEN support and the Graduated Response in relation to the Special Educational Needs Code of Practice, using the information gained to provide further advice to secure pupil progress.

4. To conduct assessments using both formal and informal methods in order to provide information which can support the Education, Health and Care Plan processes.

5. To be able to evaluate the effectiveness of teaching styles on learning and provide sensitive feedback, support, coaching and training to develop the capacity of staff to meet a broader range of needs.

6. To advise on the effectiveness and appropriateness of specialist techniques, materials and equipment to ensure access across the curriculum.

7. To provide advice to ensure that specialist support and techniques are integrated into the ongoing classroom curriculum.

8. To promote the appropriate and timely use of ICT to ensure learning and facilitate independence.

9. To work with colleagues from other agencies to provide effective support, advice and training to pupils, teaching staff and parents/carers.

10. To use highly specialist knowledge to inform service and policy developments.

11. To develop care protocols and innovative practice in collaboration with team members.

  • A postgraduate qualification in Educational Psychology.
  • Registration with HCPC as an Practitioner Psychologist.
  • Eligibility for chartered status with the BPS. Degree or equivalent

Desirable

  • Significant and recent courses in the area of special educational needs (SEN), including at least two relevant areas.
