C(E)TR Expert by Experience

The closing date is 28 January 2026

Job summary

Become an Expert by Experience - Share Your Voice and Help Shape Better Care

We are seeking individuals with lived experience of Mental Health, Learning Disability and/or Autism (MHLDA) inpatient settings, or those who have supported someone as a carer or advocate. This role is not suitable for anyone currently receiving inpatient care.

You will join Care, Education and Treatment Review (C(E)TR) panels as an Expert by Experience (EbyE), working alongside Clinical Reviewers and the Delegated Chair to review a person's care, education (if under 18) and treatment in hospital settings.Your insight may come from personal experience as someone with a learning disability and/or autism, or as a family member or carer for someone who uses services, where the system is challenged by complex care needs.

Experts by Experience bring a vital perspective to ensure reviews reflect lived experience, promote accessibility and reasonable adjustments, support communication with the person and family, and uphold equality, diversity and human rights.

Reviews take place over one day, with some preparation beforehand. After the review, you will help check the final report for accuracy. Ongoing involvement is not expected.

If you are passionate about improving services and ensuring people's voices are heard, we would love to hear from you.

Main duties of the job

You will not have employee status.

Care, (Education) and Treatment Review (C(E)TRs) provide the opportunity that the care and treatment are effective and that they are supported to leave hospital as soon as possible. This is through key lines of enquiry (KLOE) and subsequent recommendations.

C(E)TRs are carried out by an independent panel of people. This includes a commissioner who funds the person's care ('Chair' - or a person delegated on behalf of East of England PC), an expert by experience (EbE), who is an autistic person or a person with a learning disability or a family carer with lived experience of services. The panel also includes a clinical expert who is qualified to work in health & care.

The East of England Provider Collaborative (EoEPC) includes six NHS trusts delivering specialised mental health and learning disability, autism inpatient care.
