This post is a 2-year scheme specifically designed to support those wanting to pursue a career as a consultant psychiatrist in obtaining their CESR.

Main duties of the job
- Working alongside consultant colleagues to provide clinical leadership for the provision of a specialist Perinatal Mental Health Team to the north half of the county of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough
- Advice, assessment and management of patients with severe and/or complex mental health condition in the perinatal period and preconception counselling
- Deliver evidence-based treatments in respect to treatment during pregnancy and breastfeeding
- Liaise with statutory and non-statutory sector agencies including maternity, social services, primary care and secondary care colleagues
- Ensure excellence in and continuity of care including safe and efficient patient records
- Contribute to the teaching, training and mentoring of junior medical staff and in-service training and supervision of multi-disciplinary team (MDT) members
- Facilitate joint working, case consultation and case transfer
- Support audit, research and service development
- Ensure that practice is up-to-date and in line with the GMC Good Medical Practice Guidelines including ability to evidence this for the purposes of annual appraisal.
- Actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance, audit and research.
- Ensure active participation in continuing professional development (CPD) including working towards CESR application.

The post is in Peterborough City Health Clinic with satellite clinics in Huntingdon Newtown Centre and Wisbech Agenoria House.
The successful applicant will work together under the supervision of a consultant colleague to provide clinical leadership of the North Perinatal Mental Health Team and offer advice, assessment and treatment for all perinatal patients with severe and complex mental health condition in the area. This will involve close working relationships with local maternity, health visiting mental health champions as well as primary care colleagues and the Primary Care Mental Health team and with the local Mother and Baby Units.
The appointed candidate with limited or no experience in the field of Perinatal Psychiatry will be offered bespoke specialist training provided by Royal of Psychiatrist and other relevant training agencies.
DUTIES OF THE POST Throughout the programme the appointee will have three SPAs each week including a protected special interest day. This can be used for additional clinical experience such as inpatient, crisis work and psychotherapy, development of non-clinical competencies and portfolio development.
Key Clinical Responsibilities
The post holder will provide clinical leadership to the team working alongside an experienced consultant colleague. He or she will contribute to provide advice, assessment of perinatal patients referred to the service for diagnosis and treatment of mental disorders and support MDT members who carry out assessment of patients in the team. She/he will help to facilitate accurate diagnosis and timely interventions so that patients and their families receive integrated, evidence-based treatment which can be delivered in a timely manner and in accordance with the recovery model. He or she will also provide ongoing treatments to patients that are evidence based and supported by NICE guidelines, maintaining a bio psychosocial approach.
The post holder will participate in Mental Health Act assessments where possible. If she/he does not yet have S12 approval they will prioritise working toward this and to a comprehensive awareness of Mental Health, Mental Capacity and Care Act Legislation.
The post holder is expected to be committed to a multidisciplinary approach to care and actively contribute to MDT meetings and formulation meetings and work in close collaboration with team members, care coordinators, other CPFT services and statutory agencies as required for the care of community patients. The post holder has a role to foster close working relationship with key stakeholders in the perinatal pathway. He or she will contribute to the perinatal training programme locally, increasing their involvement in this as their experience increases.
The post holder will provide medical leadership to the respective teams maintaining the highest clinical standards in the assessment and management of patients with acute mental disorders and sharing responsibility for day-to-day management of the services
