Full-time fixed-term 12 Months (secondment opportunity available to internal applicants)
We are currently looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated Health Care Assistant to join our Child Development Centre Service, based in the City Care Centre, Thorpe Road, Peterborough PE3 6DB. The successful candidate will work with a variety of different professionals, supporting clinics and providing help to ensure efficient and safe care to the children, young people and families using the department. You will be support by a senior member of the Community Paediatric Team.
The ideal candidate will have a strong team work ethic, sense of accountability, accompanied by an ability to work under considerable pressure at times. This post is open to professionals with the right attributes to enhance a team.

Main duties of the job
- To carry out duties to ensure the smooth running of clinics in the child development centre.
- To deliver specific nursing interventions, social and play tasks.
- The post-holder will also be expected to undertake some clerical duties.
- To act under direction of qualified professionals.
- Work alongside other Child Development Centre (CDC) staff to provide both a quality and child friendly service
You may be required to undertake and successfully complete the new national Care Certificate within a 12 weeks' timeframe if you meet our criteria. You will receive full training and support and The Care Certificate sets out 15 national care standards that must be achieved by all health and social care staff to demonstrate that they have the skills and knowledge needed to provide safe and excellent quality of care. It is a foundation programme which can provide the first steps to career development within the NHS.

- To deliver care to patients, carers and their families adhering to the philosophy of family centred care.
- To use a range of verbal and non-verbal communication tools to communicate effectively with patients and colleagues to progress their care. This may include patients who have cognitive impairment or difficulty communicating.
- To act as a chaperone for vulnerable children and young people as per Chaperone policy.
- Promote the health, comfort, dignity, privacy and quality of life for children and young people. To empathise with the patient and carer. To be sensitive to individual patient needs, expectations and cultural beliefs.
- To provide distraction and assist in helping children and young people with their coping strategies undergoing any procedures that they may find distressing.
- Keeping the consultation and assessment rooms and other areas used by the children, young people and their families, or used by the staff on behalf of the patient, clean and orderly. Liaise with estate services with regard to cleaning.
- Ensure first line resuscitation equipment maintained in line with trust policy.
- Assist in maintaining a clean and safe environment, disposing of clinical waste, rubbish and soiled linen appropriately and in the preparation of examination areas.
- To carry out administrative duties as required e.g. photocopying / faxing / filling out lab forms / checking stationary stocks.
- To ensure that all duties are carried out to the highest possible standard.
- Develop and expand caring relationships with children, young people and their families through the use of appropriate communication and interpersonal skills as a member of CDC services.
- To liaise and communicate effectively with members of the CDC team as well as the childrens community nurses and other clinicians using CDC.
