Job summary
Are you graduating soon or a current band 5 and aspiring to gain experience in BOTH in-patient and community settings. Working within BOTH physical health and mental health services, then CPFT's new unique rotational scheme could be for you.
Traditionally rotations occur within one setting, either in-patient or community. This rotational scheme consists of 8 rotations that break the conventional boundaries offering opportunities across specialisms. The opportunity to obtain experience in a wide variety of services will create a bespoke experience that will support acceleration of your career- come and take your place with us.
Rotational Options include: Mental Health Older People Community, Older People Mental Health in-patient wards, Physical Health in-patient Rehabilitation Unit, Early Stroke Discharge, Community Occupational Therapy including Falls Preventions and Orthopaedics, and Intermediate Care Team.
There is not a set rotations wheel or order to be completed, instead, you get to decide where you would next like to learn, where your interest lie and where you would like to gain experience from a team of supportive and advanced practitioners.
We have regular In-Service training sessions, clinical supervision and peer band 5 group meetings as well as opportunities to get involved with Quality Improvement projects. We run a Preceptorship Programme for all newly qualified Band 5 therapists; you will be fully supported by senior staff and the Therapy Professional Leads.
Main duties of the job
To undertake comprehensive occupational therapy assessments of patients using clinical reasoning to select appropriate assessment techniques to determine a clinical diagnosis of the patient's needs.
To analyse the information gained from the assessment to formulate objectives and treatment plan in agreement with the patient where appropriate.
To select appropriate treatment techniques from within own scope of practice referring to evidence-based practice.
To use clinical reasoning skills and appropriate outcome measures to review and evaluate a patient's condition at each occupational therapy session to amend the treatment programme as necessary to achieve planned objectives.
To provide education & advice to carers, and members of the multidisciplinary team. To liaise with family, carers, and external agencies to ensure safe and effective care.
To plan and undertake discharge of patients from occupational therapy when agreed objectives have been reached or treatment is no longer appropriate. This may involve discharge planning as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
This is a developmental post as part of a rotational scheme, supported by experienced specialist Occupational Therapists. The specific caseloads will be flexible across community and in-patient clinical areas within the Trust. This will include ward-based work, patients' homes and other residential settings.
