Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust (CPFT) invites applications for a Consultant Psychiatrist in Learning Disabilities to clinically lead an in-patient unit and an intensive support team for adults with intellectual disabilities with opportunities to work closely with Cambridge Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Group(CIDDRG) at the Department of Psychiatry, University of Cambridge.
Main duties of the job
Successful post holders will provide clinical leadership for the patients admitted to The Hollies, in patient unit and the intensive support team (IST) located in Peterborough. Depending on the interests of the post-holder there are also excellent opportunities to be involved in medical management, under/post-graduate teaching, development of areas of clinical interest. There are excellent links with the academic department and depending on post-holder's experience and skills the potential for consultants to be involved in research and be appointed as an honorary member of the Dept. of Psychiatry, University of Cambridge. There is also an excellent CPD programme and opportunities for professional development.
What's on offer? - Protected time for research/management and/or special clinical interest with 7.5 PAs for direct clinical care and 2.5 SPAs. A further 1.5 SPAs are negotiable for service-related research commitments in conjunction with the University of Cambridge for applicants with appropriate interests and expertise.

Job responsibilities
Clinical:
- To provide direct clinical care and leadership for the patients admitted to The Hollies, in patient unit and the intensive support team (IST).
- As the consultant psychiatrist, to act as a resource for the broader team for advice, and assessment where necessary, in relation to complex presentations including psychiatric co-morbidities, neuro-psychiatric syndromes, overlapping physical/mental state symptoms or other medical issues.
- As the consultant psychiatrist, to provide advice on medication or other physical interventions where needed.
- To provide advice and consultation to general psychiatric services
- The post-holder will ensure that they are in good medical standing for CPD and that their practice is up-to-date and in line with the GMCs Good Medical Practice Guidelines and best practice guidelines. Participate in clinical audit.
Administration:
- Work with the clinical and management team to achieve the key performance indicators set for the service.
- Contribute to the collection and monitoring of clinical outcome data
- Participate in the administration of patient information systems and ensure that data are entered in accordance with CPFT policies and guidance.
Management
- Work with clinical colleagues, the Service Manager and Directorate Leadership team to ensure that the service works in an efficient and cost-effective manner whilst delivering high quality, evidence-based care.
- To be involved in the development of the Hollies in partnership with the wider directorate team
- Work in accordance with the teams Service Operating Policy and in accordance with CPFT policies and guidelines
Teaching
- To contribute to the teaching, training, and mentoring of any junior medical staff and, where appropriate, of other team members.
- To contribute to broader teaching initiatives where possible eg. medical undergraduates, MRCPsych, etc.
Research
- The post-holder is expected to support the broader CPFT research endeavour. Cambridge offers unrivalled opportunities for research and for collaboration with (Cambridge Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Group(CIDDRG) at the Department of Psychiatry, University of Cambridge and other University Departments and MRC Units. A wide range of research is currently conducted by the University Department of Psychiatry and by NHS staff.
Clinical Governance
- The post-holder will be aware of, and act within, locally and nationally agreed protocols and will be actively involved in clinical governance within the service.
- The post-holder will ensure any issues of concern are appropriately escalated and that any incidents are appropriately reported.
Accountability
- The post holder will be accountable to Clinical Director for Adult and Specialist Services. Professional accountability is to the Trust Board through the Trust Medical Director.
Job Planning & Appraisal
- Job Plans are reviewed with the Clinical Director.
- Consultants are required to take part in the annual appraisal process under the supervision of the Medical Director. Consultants are also encouraged to arrange a suitable mentor.
On-call
- The current policy is that all consultants, unless there are health reasons or exceptional circumstances, are required to contribute to the rota. Two consultant rotas are in operation: North and South. They are both approximately 1 in 22 pro rata.
