A rare opportunity has arisen to appoint a Consultant in Sleep Medicine University College London Hospitals. With a commitment to high quality patient care, innovative service models, delivery of performance targets, and excellence in education/training.

The successful applicant will provide clinical service to the RLHIM Insomnia and Behavioural Sleep Medicine Service. The service focuses on treatment of insomnia, circadian rhythm disorders, nightmares, sleep paralysis and related sleep disorders, with emphasis on cognitive behavioural therapy, other psychological and non-pharmacological methods, but including advice and adjustment of conventional hypnotic and other relevant drug therapies.

This consultant's job plan comprises 10 Programmed Activities per week on average, to be carried out on UCLH sites, with no on-call commitment. This new position will be based at the RLHIM with some face to face patient contact and some remote working.

We seek an outstanding doctor to join the RLHIM's non-organic Insomnia Service.

This is a busy and growing service and it is anticipated that the successful candidate will take up appointment at the earliest opportunity.

Main duties of the job

Clinical duties include assessment of patients and formulation of treatment plans; delivery of treatment to patients, both individual and group-based; and liaison with other clinicians. Non-direct patient care duties as part of the multi-disciplinary team, supervision and teaching of trainees and promotion of integration of the service, both 'horizontal' (i.e. with other UCLH services) and 'vertical' (with self- and primary care), and service development. The successful applicant will also participate in the programme to expand the range of sleep disorders treated in the clinic and the range of therapies offered.

To be eligible for this position, a full UK GMC Registration, MRCPsych (or equivalent), be on GMC Specialist Register in a relevant specialty, or at the time of interview be within 6 months of expected date of CCST. Experience of the diagnosis, assessment and treatment of sleep disorders is essential to this role.
