Job summary

An exciting opportunity to join the NHS's largest and fastest-growing multidisciplinary Neurogastroenterology department. The service comprises specialist gastroenterologists, clinical scientists, psychiatrists, clinical nurse specialists, psychologists and dietitians, working together to deliver highly specialised care for patients with complex gastrointestinal disorders.

The post-holder will independently perform, analyse and report a range of gastrointestinal physiology investigations, working closely with medical and allied health professional colleagues to support diagnosis and management. The role offers structured support from the Lead Clinical Scientist and consultant clinicians, alongside wider operational and professional support within the department.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will independently perform upper and lower gastrointestinal physiology investigations, including:

o Oesophageal manometryo Ambulatory reflux monitoring (24-hour pH-impedance and 96-hour Bravo)o Anorectal manometryo Body surface gastric mapping (Alimetry)

The role also includes supporting the delivery of hydrogen breath testing and panometry (EndoFLIP) studies.

In addition to diagnostic testing, the post-holder will contribute to service development, audit and quality-improvement activity, with opportunities to lead projects aligned to personal interests and departmental priorities. There is also strong support for involvement in research within the service.

The post-holder will be responsible for the safe use, technical oversight and day-to-day management of specialist medical devices and equipment, ensuring compliance with local and national governance standards.

  • -A qualified Clinical Scientist (GI Physiology/Clinical Engineering) or Accredited Independent Practitioner with a degree in Gastrointestinal Physiology. Those approaching qualification but yet to finish their respective programme are also invited to apply.
