The Children and Young People's Department are looking to recruit an associate specialist in general paediatrics from February 2026 on a fixed term contract of 1 year. There is opportunity for additional specialty work depending on your interest and you will be supported to reach your potential.
Applicants must have at least two years' experience working at ST4+ level in NHS paediatric care.
The post will provide continuity of care on the acute paediatric ward and Emergency Department with opportunity for the development of a special interest if desired.

Main duties of the job
The post is based in general paediatrics encompassing PED, inpatients and outpatient clinics. The post is from 8.30am to 5pm for 4 days a week between Monday and Friday. This post does not include out of hours work or on calls but successful candidates are encouraged to sign up to the hospital bank if desired to help fill occasional out of hours locum work (long days and/or weekends). Outpatient experience is included in this post that could encompass either general and rapid referral clinics or depending on the candidate's interests.
The post holder will work under the direction of the Consultants in general paediatrics and be directly responsible to the Clinical Director. We would particularly value applicants with a holistic, team-working perspective who is driven to work in a high performing team and strives to continually improve care. The postholder will demonstrate the ability to meet UCLH's Trust values, having a can-do approach to working with colleagues and being able to see patients as people. They will exhibit leadership skills and have a commitment to clinical governance and ensuring top quality patient care. You will also contribute to multidisciplinary discussions, ensuring safe and effective treatment planning, and be actively involved in audit, education and quality improvement projects.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Children and Young Peoples cute paediatric team. The role offers the chance to work alongside a large and friendly multidisciplinary team in both inpatient and outpatient areas.
The Children and Young Peoples Division consists of several departments, covering integration with primary care, secondary care, tertiary and national referral services. These include General Paediatrics and Adolescents (lead Dr Yasmin Baki), Children and Young Peoples Cancer Service (CYPCS, lead for teenagers and young adults Dr Vicky Grandage, lead for paediatrics (Dr Maria Michelagnoli), Child and Adolescent Mental Health (lead Dr Michael Groszman), Adolescent Endocrinology and Paediatric & Adolescent Diabetes (lead Dr Billy White) Adolescent Rehabilitative Medicine (TRACCS lead Najette Ayadi ODonnell) and Paediatric Surgery (Lead Mr Navroop Johal )
Around 20,000 children and young people each year attend the emergency department, which has recently moved to new facilities. Acute admissions of children and teenagers are to age-specific wards on the 11th and 12th floor of the hospital tower. Our adolescent unit is the largest in Europe and one of which we are proud. A single oncology service for 0-19 years has been established between Great Ormond Street Hospital and UCLH. There is an adolescent endocrinology service offering transition for young people from Great Ormond Street Hospital and a regional Diabetes service. Consultants in this field are employed jointly between UCLH and GOSH. The Child & Adolescent Diabetes Service at UCLH is the leading service in the UK, having the best results in the 2016 National Paediatric Diabetes Audit and the largest insulin pump service in the UK.
