The closing date is 28 October 2025

Job summary

We are seeking enthusiastic applicants for a Junior Clinical Fellow post (equivalent to CT1/2 level) to join University College Hospital's world class Trauma and Orthopaedic team.

The Trauma and Orthopaedic service at University College Hospital is a busy department, led by 20 consultants who specialise in a range of routine and complex elective and trauma work. As one of our valued Trauma and Orthopaedic juniors you will be supported by these consultants and a team of 14 registrars and 3 senior fellows.

The post will deliver extensive experience in Trauma & Orthopaedic surgery including traumatic and non-traumatic orthopaedic conditions. This position has been introduced primarily to support the emergency flow of the hospital and therefore has the shift pattern of 14:00 - 22:00, Monday to Friday. There are no on call commitments outside of these hours associated with this post. However, there are ample academic, medical education and leadership opportunities. Daily Trauma multi-disciplinary meetings are held along with a range of MDT meetings with other departments. The department also runs a weekly SHO teaching programme.

You must have a minimum of 1 year of previous NHS employment to apply. In addition, you must have some prior experience working as a Doctor in Trauma and Orthopaedics.

We encourage applications from driven individuals who are medically qualified Doctors (equivalent to CT1/2) and passionate about a career in Orthopaedic Surgery

Main duties of the job

On call responsibilities on the SHO rota, covering the Emergency Department with acute presentations and admissions, the trauma ward and liaising with the on call Trauma Team. This includes Trauma FY1s, a Registrar, a Consultant and Trauma Clinical Nurse Specialists.

The Fellow, like all members of staff, is expected to develop professional and harmonious working relationships with all members of the nursing, professional, technical and managerial staff with whom they have contact during the performance of their duties and to follow the Hospital's Code of Ethics and Hospital Policies.

To provide medical and surgical care for patients in the department while in the clinics, in theatre and on the wards.

To meet with the respective consultants for advice and to maintain continuity of care.

Participate in the trauma and elective theatre on a planned rota basis.

To follow the instructions given by and liaise with the Consultants in charge of each particular patient at all times.
